IT Assistant

Intek Communications Inc. is looking to fill the position of IT Assistant, who, under the direction of the IT Manager, will primarily be responsible to provide internal information technology support, such as software updates, hardware maintenance and general troubleshooting. This position will provide technical advice and assistance to employees. This role will also assign user names and passwords for employees and reset as required.

This position is located at our head office in Markham, Ontario

Job Duties

  • Provide internal information technology support, software updates, and hardware maintenance
  • Provide technical advice and assistance to employees
  • Troubleshoot errors and fix system issues via periodic testing and other methods
  • Provide orientation to new users of existing technology
  • Perform in-person, on-site repairs of PC desktop hardware, laptops, printers, and other peripherals
  • Evaluate performance of computer systems, add in additional RAM if necessary, and make appropriate changes to the infrastructure
  • Evaluate hardware and software to ensure that it meets company requirements
  • Utilization of various software utilities for configuring, troubleshooting and malware removal.
  • Stay informed on new or emerging trends and technologies that provide clear benefits to the organization, business partners, and/or customers/clients

Job Requirements

  • A minimum of 12 to 24 months experience in a similar role is preferred
  • Certifications or licences appropriate to industry are considered an asset such as A+
  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning new technologies
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical members of the organization
  • Customer service experience
  • Ability to operate electronic diagnostic equipment
  • Strong knowledge of browser compatibility problems for all platforms and major browser types
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • High level of integrity and work ethic
  • Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands
  • High level of experience with Windows and Windows based programs
  • Soldering skills would be an important plus. Experience using a soldering iron, heat gun, and other professional tools.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair at the component level.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness when researching hardware and software issues
  • Demonstrated time management skills
  • Ability to work individually as well as part of a team
  • Knowledge of data recovery methods and software tools
  • Physically able to lift computers and monitors
  • Driver’s license, auto insurance and clean driver abstract is required
  • Other IT related duties, as required
